RE: Letter of Recommendation
The Short Version:
The bottom line is - we hope to hire O'Brien Contractors for future projects. They are that good !
The Long Version:
Our project was the total re-siding of a 32-year old, 2 story colonial house. The O'Briens removed all the cedar lap siding and cornerboards. They added OSB reinforcement and insulation where needed, replaced a warped stud, fixed some rotted areas and did other prep work to make sure there would be a proper foundation for the new siding. Then they installed new Hardi-plank fiber cement lap siding and Boral TruExterior trim boards, new mounting blocks for our light fixtures, new soffit vents, flashing and caulking. This was a big project that took a whole month. Due to the expense involved, we had interviewed several contractors and received 4 bids. The O'Briens' bid wasn't the cheapest or most expensive, but they came highly recommended from a trusted friend, Larry Edmonds of Parker, PA (a genuine craftsman).

Hardi-plank is a great product if it is installed according to the specs. The O'Briens were the only bidder who seemed to care about the specs. We visited the job sites of some other contractors and saw even so-called "certified" installers mishandling the product and installing it incorrectly. The O'Briens came with the James Hardie manual in hand and showed us exactly how they were going to follow the specs.

We found the O'Briens to be polite, hard-working, conscientious, reliable and honest. They did their best every day, and we are convinced they did the best job possible given the age and condition of our house. And that's not just our opinion. The painting contractors said it was one of the best Hardi-plank jobs they had seen, and were particularly impressed by the quality of the caulking, which is critical on a Hardi installation (Robert's the master!).

Our advice is hire them, you won't be disappointed.
